Also Known As: The Grey Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus)
Appearance: Oyster mushrooms have Wide, flat, light grey caps with delicate pure white gills. Oyster mushrooms grow in large clusters.
Characteristics: Oyster Mushrooms are commonly found growing wild in the U.K on dead or decaying tree stumps. Oyster Mushrooms will add a silky texture to your favourite dishes.
Shelf Life: Ambient shelf life is approximately 4 days, if kept refrigerated it can have a shelf life of 6/7 days.
Packed: Oyster mushrooms are trimmed and packed in punnets or trays.
How to Cook: They can be eaten raw but are usually cooked. They can be used whole or sliced and can replace white mushrooms in most recipes, particularly stir-fries, fish dishes and creamy sauces. They are good fried, grilled or baked.
