The Farms
Lowerfields Farm is situated just outside the village of Packington, Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire in the heart of the new National Forest. It is here that our Exotic mushrooms are produced and where The Mushroom Basket, the home of UK Maitake Mushrooms, can be found.
Logistically it is ideal as it is in the centre of England’s Midlands within easy access to the M1, M6, M42 and M5 .
The whole process from making the unique growing substrates through to final packing and distribution of the Exotic Mushrooms is carried out under the watchful eyes of Brothers Tim and Simon Livesey.
All spent substrates (composts) are returned to fields belonging to the Brothers to provide a soil conditioner enabling rich swards of chemical and fertilizer free grass to be grown to feed the award winning Pedigree Hereford Beef Cattle also owned by the Brothers. “The cattle and sheep provide a fantastic opportunity for us to utilise all of our waste from the mushrooms and at the same time produce some superb cuts of meat for the local community in our own on farm butchery . A really neat system,” says Tim Livesey.
Manor Farm is the home of the herd of Pedigree Hereford Beef Cattle, Normanton Herefords and the flock of North Country Mule sheep. It is here that the cattle and sheep graze the chemical free pastures for 8 months of the year before they are finally housed in December at Yew Tree Farm for the winter.
